Azerbaijan, Poland seek larger econimic cooperation

Azerbaijan and Poland, the two countries that enjoy good relations, eye strengthening of all-round cooperation and expansion of bilateral ties.

The further cooperation between the countries is expected to be discussed within the framework of the next intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation.

Polish ambassador to Azerbaijan Marek Calka told Trend that the meeting is scheduled for December 20. The discussions are expected to concentrate on cooperation between the countries given the change of government in Poland. Moreover, the deputy foreign ministers of the two countries are planning to make reciprocal visits in the short run.

Polish Deputy Development Minister Radoslaw Domagalski-Labedzki earlier stressed the importance of reaching certain agreements before the event.

The countries enjoy favorable prospects to expand cooperation in the agricultural, industrial, ICT, tourism and energy sectors.

President of the Polish Agricultural Market Agency Jaroslaw Olowski earlier told Trend that Azerbaijan can become a hub for export of Polish products to Iran and Central Asia, while this may open a new page in cooperation between Azerbaijan and Poland. He also stressed that Poland is interested in the import of a number of agricultural products from Azerbaijan as it sees Azerbaijan as one of the potential markets.

He added that Poland may also provide the region with its experience in the field of veterinary and phytosanitary, as the country is recognized as one of the best in Europe in the sphere.

Moreover, Poland has also expressed its interest in making investments in Azerbaijan.

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Poland amounted to $49.37 million in January to August 2016 as compared to $44.3 million in the same period of 2015.

The Polish government recognized the Republic of Azerbaijan as a state and expressed readiness to establish interstate relations in 1991.
