Turkey sees no difference between Armenia and terrorists

25 June 2016 [12:30] - TODAY.AZ

Armenia's strategy of pulling military equipment on the frontline against the background of the negotiations with Azerbaijan is no different from the actions of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorist group, Deputy Chairman of the Turkish opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Ozturk Yilmaz said, Anadolu news agency reported June 24.

Yilmaz said that the PKK took advantage of the peace negotiations with Turkey in order to gather power and get weapons.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts. The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
