Azerbaijan, UK sign military cooperation plan

The Defense Ministries of Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom have signed a military cooperation plan in Baku.

The 2015-2016 plan was undersigned by Chairman of the International Military Cooperation Department of Azerbaijani Defense Ministry Huseyn Mahmudov and Deputy Head of Bilateral Relations, NATO and Europe Policy, UK Ministry of Defense, Debbie Brothers.

The sides also made discussions about prospects for developing the bilateral military cooperation and regional security.

The United Kingdom recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan on December 26, 1991. The diplomatic relations between two countries have been established between the two countries since 1992 in the framework of international organizations such as the United Nations, OSCE, Council of Europe, and NATO.

The British embassy was opened in Baku in September 1993 and Azerbaijani embassy in London in January 1994 with a view to deepen friendship and cooperation relations existing between Azerbaijan and this region of the world.

The relations have covered a wide range of areas, from high-level political dialogue to growing trade and investment, as well as strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties.

The two countries are interested in the advancement of political dialogue and cooperation between their executive and legislative institutions.
