13 June 2016 [10:36] - TODAY.AZ

Iran finalized drilling operations in South Pars Gas field's phases 20 and 21, oil ministry's SHANA news agency reported.

The drilling operation concluded after three years as over 92,000 meters of the wells where drilled in the two phases, according to the report.

Currently some 15 wells are ready for production in phases 20 and 21 and seven wells are also in Completion B stage.

The completion operations will be finalized by July in Phase 21 and by September in Phase 20 respectively.

Earlier Behzad Mohammadi Managing Director of Oil industries' Engineering and Construction (OIEC) announced that the two phases will come on stream by March 2017. Development of Phases 20 and 21 of the South Pars gas field is awarded to the OIEC.

Once the two phases inaugurated Iran's gas output capacity will increase by 50 million meter cubic per day.

South Pars, located in southern Iran, is divided into 24 development phases, and contains 40 trillion cubic meters of natural gas.

It covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers are situated in Qatar's territorial waters.

The Islamic Republic produces over 420 million cubic meters per day (mcm/d) of gas from South Pars, while the production level is projected to surpass 700 mcm/d by late 2018.
