Scientific seminar on security and prospects for development of situation in the South Caucasus was held in Brussels on Nov. 4.
The seminar was organized by European Policy Center, a leading research institute in Brussels, as part of "Eastern Perspective", launched by the center in early 2009 with the purpose of analysis and prediction of situation in regions to the east of the European Union.
Director of the Institute for Strategic Studies Borut Grgich, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy, post-graduate student at Cambridge University Taleh Ziyad, representative of Directorate General for External and Political-Military Affairs of the Secretariat of the EU Council Alexandros Janis and a specialist on Russia and Eurasia Studies at Council on Foreign Relations Stephen Meister were keynote speakers at the event.
In their speeches, speakers noted the threat posed by unresolved conflicts for security, peace and stability in South Caucasus and stressed the need for quick resolution of these conflicts on the basis of norms and principles of international law.
Positive role of Azerbaijan in the regional context, including its connection with implementation of major international projects like Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum and Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project was mentioned during the presentations.
The consistent steps of Azerbaijani government aimed at a comprehensive modernization and development of both country and the region as a whole was, highly appreciated and Azerbaijan’s constructive contribution in the energy security of Europe was emphasized.
Employees of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Belgium and Azerbaijan’s Mission to NATO, representatives of European Union and NATO institutions, experts from leading research centers based in Brussels, representatives of diplomatic corps and mass media, have participated in the seminar.
