French Ambassador supports settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

On June 14, the French community of Azerbaijan held a celebration of Bastille Day in the French Embassy in Baku. The Ambassador of France to Azerbaijan Aurelia Bouchez made a congratulatory speech to the guests and then addressed the French-Azerbaijani relations.

Bouchez spoke of continuous intensive development of the dialogue between Azerbaijan and France, as well as the presence of strong relations in all spheres, in particular in the field of economy. The ambassador called on Azerbaijani investors to engage in the French infrastructure. 

“France appreciates the tolerance and the culture of multiculturalism in Azerbaijan,” Bouchez also mentioned.

Speaking about the peace process over the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabkh conflict the ambassador reiterated her country's support to the settlement of the problem. 

"France welcomes the restoration of the negotiation process on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," she said, mentioning that France would like to hold the next meeting of the Azerbaijani and Armenian Presidents.

In turn, Deputy Azerbaijani Minister of Economy Sahil Babayev congratulated the French people on their National holiday mentioning that Azerbaijan appreciates the relations with France, as well as the country’s efforts on the settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict as the co-chair state of OSCE Minsk group.

“France is one of the main economic partners of Azerbaijan,” the deputy minister noted.

France recognized the independence of Azerbaijan on January 3, 1992. The two countries established their diplomatic relations in February 1992.

The current turnover between Azerbaijan and France exceeds $1 billion. French companies are actively participating in the petrochemical, food, agricultural, machine engineering, tourism and other spheres in Azerbaijan.

More than 90 companies from France are involved in the oil and gas projects in Azerbaijan as subcontractors. At the same time, over 50 French companies participate in the non-oil sectors' projects, including the first Azerbaijani telecommunications satellite Azerspace, and a plant for solid waste recycling. In turn, 44 Azerbaijani companies are represented in France.

Currently, the inter-regional cooperation between Azerbaijan and France is at a high level. Some 12 Azerbaijani cities signed a cooperation agreement with 10 cities and one province in France.
