Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev offered his condolence to the French president over the terrorist attack to French weekly newspaper’s office in Paris.

President Aliyev sent a letter of condolence to French counterpart Francois Hollande over the death of people as a result of a terrorist act.

“We are deeply shocked by the news of the death and wounding of people as a result of a ruthless terrorist act in Paris,” the letter reads.

President said Azerbaijan is extremely angered by this horrific event, and strongly supports the resolute struggle against all manifestations of terrorism.

“On my own behalf and on behalf of the people of Azerbaijan, I express my deepest condolences to you, the families and loved ones of those who died and all the people of France, and wish those wounded a speedy recovery,” President Aliyev said.

Three masked men armed with Kalashnikov automatic rifles and a rocket-launcher attacked people inside the Paris headquarters of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo earlier on January 7, killing at least 12 people and injuring many others, four critically, before they fled the building.

The magazine sparked controversy in 2006 and 2012 for publishing comic cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.

Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry also strongly condemned the terrorist attack to the French weekly.

“Azerbaijan staunchly supports the efforts of the international community in the fight against terrorism and makes its contributions to this struggle,” said Hikmat Hajiyev, Head of Press Service of the Foreign Ministry.

He said Azerbaijan, as country suffering from terrorism, condemns all forms and manifestations of terrorism. “We also reiterate that no act of terrorism can be justified.”

“We condemn strongly the terror attack perpetrated in France. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of this terror act and the people of France and wish the soonest recovery of the wounded,” Hajiyev added.
