Azerbaijani FM accuses Iran of violating int'l conventions n

Iran is violating international conventions, not providing to the Azerbaijani side information about the fate of its fellow citizens, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev told reporters on Thursday, commenting on information of a number of media outlets.

The Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry has not received official information about the allegedly perpetrated crimes by the citizens of Azerbaijan in Iran, he said.

He said the Azerbaijani side today sent another note to the Iranian Foreign Ministry demanding to provide information on both citizens and arrange for staff of the Azerbaijani embassy a meeting with them.

Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry keeps this matter under the attention and will not allow our citizens to be imputed the criminal case, Abdullayev said.

Two Azerbaijani citizens, Farid Huseyn and Shahriyar Hajizade, are missing in Iran since May 2.

Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry earlier sent four notes to Iran's Foreign Ministry demanding clarification of the situation with the missing fellow citizens.

Last week, Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed the arrest of two Azerbaijani citizens.

According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry's response to Azerbaijan's note, two Azerbaijani citizens are accused of attempting to commit a crime.
