Azerbaijan’s Airlines has strengthened security measures at the Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport and at all regional airports across the country.

“These measures have been taken in the wake of the incident that occurred on board the crashed Airbus A321,” the airline explained.

AZAL reported that the security services at the country’s airports were thoroughly analyzed, and on-site briefings were carried out with the airports’ employees with regard to increasing aviation safety regimes.

A Russian airliner carrying 217 passengers and seven crew members on board crashed in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula on October 31 shortly after losing radar contact. The Airbus A321, operated by Russian airline Kogalymavia under the brand name Metrojet, was flying from the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to St Petersburg in Russia.

The disaster, which is the largest in the Russian and Soviet aviation history, killed all passengers and crew members.

Azerbaijan Airlines is a major air carrier and one of the leaders of the aviation community of the CIS countries, with the newest airplane fleets, comprising 25 airplanes. The airline flies to 40 destinations in 19 countries and transported more than 1.8 million passengers in 2014.

Azerbaijani civil aviation aircraft fully meet the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and AZAL is a member of the most prestigious civil aviation association - the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

AZAL received a prestigious "4 Stars" rating from the leader in air transport research, the world-famous British consulting company Skytrax, in June 2015.
