U.S. Co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, James Warlick has revealed the topic to be mulled during the upcoming meeting of the MG co-chairs with the presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The parties will discuss the decisions taken earlier in Vienna and St. Petersburg, he told Trend on October 11.

“The co-chairs plan to visit the region this month, we will discuss various ways to restore a long-term peace,” the U.S. co-chair noted.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan twice since the April escalation in Nagorno-Karabakh, first in Vienna in May, and the second time in St. Petersburg in June along with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The diplomat also expressed hope that the heads of Azerbaijan and Armenia, Ilham Aliyev and Serzh Sargsyan will agree on early meeting and that they will continue the bilateral dialogue.

Earlier, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov stated that the co-chairs plan to visit Azerbaijan and Armenia and perhaps, then they will determine which suggestions will be made for a possible meeting of the two countries’ presidents.

Since a war in the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and over 1 million were displaced as a result of the large-scale hostilities.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding districts.

Despite a ceasefire agreement achieved between the sides, Armenia regularly shells the Azerbaijani positions in an effort to tense the situation. Ignoring the calls of Azerbaijani side, as well as the international community to follow the armistice, Armenia continues its destructive actions hereby showing its disrespect to the peace process.
