Armenian military breaks ceasefire with Azerbaijan nearly 110 times in a day

Over the past 24 hours, Armenian military 109 times broke ceasefire on various parts of the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops.

Armenians used large-caliber machine guns and mortars while violation of the ceasefire, said Azerbaijani Defense Ministry Sept. 23.

Armenian armed forces stationed on nameless heights in the Paravakar village of Ijevan district of Armenia opened fire at Azerbaijani positions located in the Kohnegishlag village of the Agstafa district.

Armenians stationed in the Berkaber village of Armenia’s Ijevan district opened fire at Azerbaijani positions located in the Gizilhajili village of the Gazakh district.

Aside from that, Armenians stationed on the nameless heights of Krasnoselsk district of Armenia opened fire at Azerbaijani positions on the nameless heights of Gadabay district.

Azerbaijani positions also came under fire of Armenians stationed in the Tapgaragoyunlu, Talish, Gulustan villages of Goranboy district, the Chilyaburt, Goyarkh, Gizil Oba villages of the Terter district, the Novruzlu, Sarijali, Javahirli, Yusifjanli, Shikhlar, Kangarli, Shuraabad, Merzili villages of Aghdam district, the Kuropatkino village of Khojavand district, the Horadiz, Garakhanbayli, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Ashagi Veyselli villages of the Fizuli district and the Mehdili village of Jabrail district.

Aside from that, Armenians were firing from positions on the nameless heights in the Goranboy, Khojavand, Fizuli and Jabrail districts.

Given the operational situation, the Azerbaijani armed forces inflicted 159 fire strikes on the enemy positions.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
