Nothing threatens security of Azerbaijani citizens in Beirut

The current unrest in Beirut does not pose a threat to Azerbaijani citizens, permanently or temporarily residing in Lebanon, Ramil Bahirov, the attache of the Azerbaijani embassy in Lebanon, told Trend Aug. 25.

“Currently, several Azerbaijani women, who once married to the citizens of Lebanon, and a small group of students, studying in various universities in the country, permanently live in Beirut,” the diplomat said. “All of them live far from the center, covered by the riots.”

He said that the embassy is located on the territory of the diplomatic area and it is located at a great distance from the place covered by the rallies.

The diplomatic mission appealed to the compatriots living in Beirut with the recommendation to avoid the crowded places and to be vigilant. In case of any problems, the compatriots can contact the embassy via a hot line: +9614524489.

Mass rallies took place in the center of the Lebanese capital Aug.22-23. People demanded to solve the problem of collection and disposal of garbage and the resignation of the government of the country.

The peaceful demonstration escalated twice into riots and clashes with police. Medical assistance was provided to more than 340 citizens of the country, one person was killed, RIA Novosti news agency reported earlier.

Ministry of foreign affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain warned citizens against traveling to Lebanon due to the unstable political situation in the country and called on those who are in Lebanon to leave it immediately, said the message of the ministry of foreign affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

In turn, the Kuwaiti embassy in Beirut asked citizens of the emirate, who are in Lebanon, to take precautionary measures and return home as soon as possible.

Other Arabian monarchies gave the same recommendations to their citizens as well.
