18 August 2015 [19:14] - TODAY.AZ

The decision regarding the location of a headquarters of the new International Turkic News Channel will be made later, Azerbaijani president’s aide for public and political affairs, head of the presidential administration’s public and political affairs department, Ali Hasanov told Trend reporter Aug. 18.

He made the remarks in Astana, Kazakhstan, after a meeting of the Information Ministers and Executives in Charge of Media of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (CCTSS).

“There is a proposal that it [the channel’s headquarters] to be located in Astana,” he said. “There will of course be national representative offices in all the Turkic-speaking countries, similar to how the ‘Mir’ television and radio company operates.”

“But this is a prerogative of the heads of states,” said Hasanov. “They will make a decision.”

Azerbaijani president’s aide also said that it is early to talk about the time of the launch of a new TV channel, since the question about its funding remains open.

On August 18, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan signed a protocol in Astana to create the International Turkic News Channel.

The next meeting of representatives of the Turkic-speaking states on the issues of creation of the new channel will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan.

As it is expected, the creation of the International Turkic News Channel will allow Turkic countries to freely access the global information space and contribute significantly to the formation of a centralized news policy.
