09 February 2015 [12:15] - TODAY.AZ

The situation on the contact line between Azerbaijan and Armenia has remained tense as the Armenian Armed Forces shattered ceasefire a total of 60 times throughout the day, Azerbaijan`s Defense Ministry reported.

The ceasefire was violated in Kokhanabi, Aghdam, Alibeyli, Munjuglu and Hajialili villages of Tovuz region, Chileburt and Gizil Oba villages of Terter region, Talish and Tap Garagoyunlu villages of Goranboy region, Shuraabad, Yusifjanli, Kengerli, Sarijali, Shikhlar, Jevahirli, Garagashli, Bash Gervend and Novruzlu villages of Aghdam region, Kuropatkino village of Khojavend region, Horadiz, Gorgan, Ashagi Seyidahmadli and Garakhanbayli villages of Fuzuli region.

The enemy was silenced with a retaliatory fire.

Armenia captured Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts from Azerbaijan in a war that followed the Soviet breakup in 1991. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and nearly 1 million were displaced as a result of the war.

Large-scale hostilities ended with a Russia-brokered ceasefire in 1994 but Armenia continued the occupation in defiance of four UN Security Council resolutions. Peace talks mediated by Russia, France and the U.S. have produced no results so far.
