President Aliyev receives IOC's honorary medal

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev has been presented with a commemorative medal by the International Olympic Committee for the heads of state.

President Aliyev got the medal during a meeting with President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach and President of the European Olympic Committees Patrick Hickey on November 20.

During the meeting, Bach said the ongoing developments in Azerbaijan have made deep impression on him. He congratulated the head of state on achievements.

Emphasizing the importance of holding the 43rd General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees in Baku, the head of state said he was pleased that Azerbaijan is hosting such an event.

President Aliyev noted that such events create a good opportunity for guests to get acquainted with the country. Stressing that Azerbaijan has good experience in organizing international events, he expressed confidence that the first European Games would be held successfully.

The parties noted the importance of state's attention to the development of sports in Azerbaijan, highlighting the country’s contribution to international cooperation in this area. They also expressed their satisfaction with the high-level preparations for the first European Games to be held in Baku.

Following, Bach presented President Aliyev the commemorative medal. Azerbaijan’s president is one of the first heads of state to receive this commemorative medal.

Later, President Aliyev hosted a dinner in honor of President of the IOC Bach and President of the EOC Hickey.

Azerbaijan’s capital city Baku will host the 43rd General Assembly of the EOC on November 21-22.
