Member of the Turkish Parliament’s foreign affairs committee Ismail Safi has said in an article published in Turkey`s Star newspaper that Azerbaijan has achieved significant successes in the ten-year presidency of Ilham Aliyev.
Safi, who monitored the October 9 presidential elections as an observer, noted that Azerbaijan`s national leader Heydar Aliyev leveraged hydrocarbon reserves and diplomatic experience gained during the Soviet era in order to cement international positions of the country and pursue a balanced foreign policy.
The article underlined that this policy was continued under President Ilham Aliyev. “As a result, the poverty level dropped to 4 percent and Azerbaijani manat became one of the world`s five strongest currencies.” The author says the country has built a defense industry and launched a satellite. “All these factors ensured the convincing victory of Ilham Aliyev.”
The Turkish MP pointed out that the Azerbaijani opposition had not proposed any concrete program and development conception.
