The Institute of Turkology of the Free University of Berlin and German-Azerbaijan Forum have co-organized an event on the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The event, held at the Free University of Berlin, was addressed by representative of the Bundestag, Hayko Langner and employer of the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF), Azer Babayev.

Opening the event, director of the Institute of Turkology, Klaus Schønning said the Institute attaches great importance to the South Caucasus region, particularly Azerbaijan.

Schønning underscored the necessity of settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Langner spoke of the history and current state of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Using historical facts, he said Nagorno-Karabakh was an integral part of Azerbaijan.

Langner noted Armenia still continues to occupy Azerbaijan`s Nagorno-Karabakh and adjacent seven regions. He added as a result of Armenia`s occupation policy more than 1 million people had become refugees and IDPs within their country.

Babayev briefed the participants on the course of the negotiations to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He expressed regret over lack of progress in the talks. He also added the negotiations had given no results because of Armenia`s non-constructive position.

Babayev stressed the necessity of active participation of the United States, EU and Russia in the settlement process.
