Ilham Aliyev: Azerbaijan can't be dictated, but can be partnered with, befriended

14 July 2015 [09:36] - TODAY.AZ

Undesirable processes are observed in various parts of the world, bloody clashes are going on in the Middle East, Europe is in a deep economic and moral crisis and all this makes one think, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said July 13.

He made the remarks during the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on the results of the country’s socio-economic development in the first half of 2015 and the objectives for the future.

The president touched upon the issue of Azerbaijan’s integration into European structures, as well as the format of cooperation.

“Azerbaijan creates equal relations with all countries, all international organizations and we continue our activities in accordance with this principle,” Aliyev said, adding that Azerbaijan takes its national interests as basis in cooperation with the European Union.

Furthermore, Ilham Aliyev said that the criminal dictatorial regime in Armenia oppresses its own nation and junta enriches itself at the people’s expense.

It was noted that there is no progress in the settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Armenia boycotts the negotiation process and tries to protract the issue.

Moreover, the president said that the article on the conflict’s settlement of the resolution adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is biased.

He said that the text of the resolution proposed by the rapporteurs said that the Assembly takes into account that Azerbaijan’s territories have been occupied, but the sentence was later changed to the one that said the Assembly takes into account that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict exists

“What does it mean? It is an apparent anti-Azerbaijani position,” Ilham Aliyev said. He added that a dirty campaign is carried out against Azerbaijan and it flares up even more on the eve of the important international events.

The president said that some hypocritical western politicians, congressmen, senators, Islamophobic politicians living off Armenian money, have declared war on Azerbaijan and this stems from jealousy and bad intentions.

“Unfortunately, today, fascism, racism, Islamophobia, xenophobia, anti-Semitism revive in Europe. That’s to say, all these movements are not against only Muslims,” said Aliyev.

Naturally, these are the forces which do not want to see such development of a Muslim country and they have united, said the president.

“At the same time, the patrons of the remnants of the fifth column in Azerbaijan went on the offensive against us,” he said. “That’s to say, on the eve and during the First European Games, the information war against us entered the toughest phase.”

The president added that however, Azerbaijan and its people became the winners of this information war.

“This campaign and its last phase once again showed that no external force can affect our will,” he said.

Although two days before the start of the First European Games, the resolution against Azerbaijan was put for discussion at the European Parliament, it wasn’t adopted, said Aliyev.

This is while German Bundestag adopted anti-Azerbaijani resolution which is a part of the dirty campaign held to cast shadow on Azerbaijan, its success, the president added.

“A question arises: what does German Bundestag have to do with us and who does Bundestag think it is? Is it the master of the world, ruler of the world and everyone should obey it? Apparently, they have been accustomed badly. But they’d better not to compare us with others.”

“We have distanced relation with them. We don’t want anything from them,” said Aliyev. “On the contrary, they need our gas, our contracts and oil. They need our activities on this territory, in this geography.”

Noting that the resolution adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe also reflects anti-Azerbaijani position, Aliyev said that these resolutions are of no importance.

“Nevertheless, we have no problems with European countries in bilateral format,” he said.

“In many cases, I certainly talk about all these shortcomings during the meetings with the heads of Europe’s leading countries,” said Aliyev. “They say: don't pay attention, it isn't deserved. We don’t pay attention, if we did, we would do what they say.”

“No one will do what they say. These resolutions are just a piece of paper for us,” said Ilham Aliyev, adding that therefore, no one will fulfill them.

“Let them know that. Let the Azerbaijani people and those who prepare these dirty articles know that,” said the president.

One shouldn’t talk with Azerbaijan in the language of diktat, but can be a friend, partner with it, said Aliyev.

"We are ready for this and will go in this direction further as well.”
