Armenian Foreign Minister’s allegations against Azerbaijan are contradictory to the realities of the negotiation process.

Hikmat Hajiyev, the spokesperson for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry made the remark while commenting on the statements of Edward Nalbandian against Azerbaijan on April 6. In his address, Nalbandian accused Baku of neglecting the proposals of the OSCE Minsk Group.

Hajiyev said it is “yet another helpless attempt to mislead the international community.”

The current status quo is unacceptable, that is what the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs reported on numerous occasions. The Armenian aggression and occupation stand at the base of the current status quo, not Azerbaijan, Hajiyev said.

Hajiyev strongly stressed that for any progress to take place, and for such an unacceptable status quo to end, Armenia would have to withdraw from Azerbaijani territories.

“In May 2014, OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair from the U.S. James Warlick, fully supported by other co-chairs, presented a six-point plan toward the conflict resolution. The primary component of this plan is the liberation of Azerbaijan occupied territories by Armenia. But Armenia has refused to start working on the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, playing deaf to calls from the international community,” Hajiyev reminded.

The official said it is the Armenian Foreign Minister who depraves the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs statements and calls, reminding that the Co-Chairs will be guided by the UN Charter, Helsinki Final Act and the UN Security Council resolutions as it was written on Budapest document on mandate of the OSCE MG Co-Chairs.

The UN Security Council resolutions reaffirm the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan and the Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan and underlining an inadmissibility of use of force for acquisition of territories demand immediate, unconditional and full withdrawal of occupying forces from all occupied territories of Azerbaijan.

“Although it is supported by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, contrary to the principles of humanism Armenia refuses exchange of information on the fate of missing persons.

After Armenia attacked Azerbaijan an estimated 4000 people went missing. Most of them, we know now were massacred by the Armenian aggressors and were buried in mass graves in both Armenia and the occupied Azerbaijani territories. Families can be informed of their loved one's fate through the use of modern forensic and DNA analyses,” he said.

Hajiyev emphasized that Armenia bears all responsibilities for the ongoing situation. The Armenian authorities with its destructive policy once again prove that Armenia is not interested in bringing peace and stability to the region.

Azerbaijan's internationally recognized Nagorno-Karabakh territory was turned into a battlefield and zone of aggravated tensions after Armenia sent its troops to occupy Azerbaijan's lands in the early 1990s. As a result, 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory stands under military occupation of Armenia.
