Armenia violates ceasefire with Azerbaijan

Armenian armed forces broke the ceasefire with Azerbaijan 47 times in numerous positions, Azerbaijani defense ministry said on Mar.16.

Armenian armed forces, located near the villages of Tapgaragoyunlu of Goranboy district, Chayli, Chilaburt, Gekarh of Terter district, Shuraabad, Javakhirli, Shirvanli, Novruzlu, Kengerli, Shikhlar, Yusifjanli, Marzili of Aghdam district, Kuropatkino of Khojavand district, Goradiz, Ashagi Seyidahmadli of Fizuli district and Mehdili of Jabrayil districts opened fire at the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces.

In addition, the Azerbaijani positions underwent fire from the positions located on the nameless heights of Goygol, Goranboy, Khojavand, Fizuli and Jabrayil districts.

As of Mar.15, Armenian armed forces violated ceasefire 66 times.

Azerbaijani positions located in the village of Kehnegishlag of Aghstafa district and on the nameless heights of Gazakh district underwent fire from the positions located in the villages of Paravakar, Vazashen of Armenia’s Ijevand district. Azerbaijani positions located in the villages of Kokhanabi and Aghdam of Tovuz district also underwent fire from the positions located in the villages of Chinari, Mosesgekh of Armenia’s Berd district.

Armenian armed forces, located on the nameless heights of Armenia’s Krasnoselskiy district, also violated ceasefire by opening fire at the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces located on the nameless heights of Gadabay district.

Azerbaijani positions also took fire from the positions located near the villages of Gulustan, Tapgaragoyunlu of Goranboy, Chilaburt of Terter, Shuraabad, Javakhirli, Kengerli, Sarijali, Shikhlar, Yusifjanli, Merzili of Aghdam, Kuropatkino of Khojavend, Goradiz, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Gorgan of Fizuli and Mehdili of Jabrayil district.

Moreover, the Azerbaijani positions took fire from the positions located on the nameless heights of Goranboy, Khojavend, Fizuli and Jabrayil districts.

The opposing side was silenced with return fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
