10 February 2015 [14:24] - TODAY.AZ

Over the past 24 hours, Armenia’s armed forces 67 times violated ceasefire on various parts of the contact line between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry said Feb. 10.

The Armenian military, stationed in the villages of Mosesgeh and Aygepar of Armenia’s Berd district, opened fire at the Azerbaijani armed forces’ positions in the villages of Aghdam and Alibayli of Azerbaijan’s Tovuz district.

The Armenians also violated ceasefire from the nameless heights in the Krasnoselsk district of Armenia, opening fire at the Azerbaijani military positions on nameless heights and in the Garavalilar village of Gadabay district.

The Azerbaijani military positions also came under fire from the positions near the Chilaburt and Chayli villages of Terter district, Tapgaragoyunlu village of Goranboy district, Yusifjanli, Kengerli, Shikhlar, Marzili villages of Aghdam district, Kuropatkino village of Khojavand district, Horadiz, Gorgan, Garakhanbayli, Ashagi Seyidahmadli villages of Fizuli district and the Mehdili village of Jabrail district.

Aside from that, the Armenians also violated ceasefire from the positions on nameless heights in Goranboy, Khojavand and Fizuli districts.

The opposing side was silenced with return fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
