The situation on the contact line of the Armenian and Azerbaijani armed forces is fully under control, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry told Trend commenting on the recent reports on the Armenian media about the alleged combat operations by the Azerbaijani soldiers.

"The Azerbaijani armed forces have not conducted any military operation on the contact line to suffer any losses as Armenian media claimed. So, all reports on this issue are baseless," the Ministry said.

The Ministry noted that most of times when such baseless information is spread, it turns out later that this is the Armenian armed forces who are suffering losses on the contact line.

Meanwhile, the defense army of the so-called "Nagorno-Karabakh Republic" claimed that there was a sabotage and intelligence penetration attempt by the Azerbaijani army on the contact line at 01:30 A.M on December 25.

According to the claim, Azerbaijani soldiers used combat weapons of various calibers, as well as hand grenades during the operation.

The Armenian armed forces have cut the silence on the contact line with Azerbaijani troops for 37 times in numerous positions in the last 24 hours, said the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry on December 25.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
