President Ilham Aliyev attends ceremony dedicated to 90th anniversary of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic - UPDATE - PHOTOS

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today attended a solemn ceremony marking the 90th anniversary of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

Held at the Heydar Aliyev Palace in the city of Nakhchivan, the ceremony brought together Nakhchivan government officials, scholars, culture and art figures, representatives of the diplomatic corps in Azerbaijan and members of Nakhchivan`s general public.

President Ilham Aliyev made a speech at the ceremony.

Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Vasif Talibov also addressed the event.

President Ilham Aliyev handed orders, medals and honorary title diplomas to a group of the Nakhchivani intellectuals, who he had awarded last week for their contribution to socio-economic development of the Autonomous Republic.

The ceremony featured a concert of Nakhchivani artists.

President Ilham Aliyev and Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of Nakhchivan Vasif Talibov, as well as the participants of the jubilee ceremony watched the concert.

The concert was followed by a reception marking the 90th anniversary of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

Prior to the reception President Ilham Aliyev spoke with representatives of the diplomatic corps in Azerbaijan.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has taken part in the opening of Arpachay-1 and Arpachay-2 hydro-electric power stations in the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan.

President Ilham Aliyev viewed Arpachay-2 hydro-electric power station. The Head of State was informed that 1.4MW hydro-electric power station had a water reservoir with a capacity of 3 mln cubic meters of water. The commissioning of these stations will expand opportunities of energy system of Nakhchivan and also strengthen material and technical basis of energy sector in the Autonomous Republic.

President Ilham Aliyev launched Arpachay-2 hydro-electric power station.

Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Vasif Talibov said that the hydro-electric power station, which meets modern standards, would contribute to strengthening energy supply of Nakhchivan.

He stressed that President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed an Order to finance the construction of Arpachay-2 hydro-electric power station in the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan on March 14, 2014. Under the Order, AZN 4 million was allocated to the Cabinet of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan from the President’s Reserve Fund for completion of the construction.

President Ilham Aliyev then attended the commissioning of Arpachay-1 hydro-electric power station.

The Head of State was informed about the capacity of the facility. The 20.5MW hydro-electric power station has a water reservoir containing 150 mln cubic meters of water.

President Ilham Aliyev pushed the start button.

The Azerbaijani leader was informed that the facility would meet main part of energy demand of the Autonomous Republic. Several hydro-electric power stations have been built in
Nakhchivan over the past 10 years. The President was told that despite living in blockade, Nakchivan met its domestic energy demands by means of its own potential.

The Head of State met residents of the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan.

President Ilham Aliyev then viewed the 150 million cubic meters water reservoir.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today attended the opening of the remodeled Kangarli District Central Hospital as part of his visit to Nakhchivan.

The Head of the State cut the ribbon symbolizing the opening of the hospital.

Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Vasif Talibov briefed the Head of State on the reconstruction work carried out in the facility.

The building of the hospital is provided with modern equipment and devices. The 95-man medical staff of the hospital will serve more than 30,000 people.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today attended the opening of a new administrative building of the Office of the Military Prosecutor of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

The Head of the State cut the ribbon symbolizing the opening of the facility.

Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Vasif Talibov informed the President about the six-storey building. Mr. Talibov noted all conditions had been created here for the activities of employees of the Military Prosecutor`s Office.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today viewed the new equipment and weapons delivered for a military unit in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

Chief of the Nakhchivan garrison, lieutenant-general Karam Mustafayev reported to the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.

The President was informed about the new weapons and equipment.

Azerbaijan`s military spending made up $3.73 billion last year in 2013, which is much more than Armenia`s total budget revenues of $2.5 billion.

In terms of military power, Azerbaijan is the regional leader.

The Head of State cut the ribbon symbolizing the opening of the Center.

Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Vasif Talibov informed President Ilham Aliyev about the conditions created in the Youth Center.

The Center has a computer room, an e-library, intellectual and table games halls, an interactive shooting gallery and a cafe.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today visited the Nakhchivan Business Center.

The Center consists of a central administrative building and an exhibition hall.
The exhibition hall was provided with pavilions, modern translation equipment, projectors and audio amplifiers.

The Head of State was informed that the Center works to enlighten entrepreneurs, and keep businessmen updated about economic reforms carried out in Azerbaijan, as well as in Nakhchivan, international economic relations, and developments and changes in the world financial system.

President Ilham Aliyev viewed an exhibition of goods produced in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Vasif Talibov informed the Head of State that about 346 types and 988 ranges of goods had been produced in Nakhchivan.

Mr. Talibov noted that some 438 industrial companies were operating in the Autonomous Republic.

The President was informed that the macroeconomic indexes of Nakhchivan had grown up in last 10 years.

The gross domestic product increased 8.4-fold, volume of industrial output 49-fold, agricultural production 4.7-fold, investments made in fixed capital 4.1-fold, while people’s incomes 10.2-fold, and foreign trade 13.9-fold between 2003-2013.

President Ilham Aliyev was informed that the exhibition featured over 280 ranges of goods of 88 companies.

The Head of State was told that the goods produced in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic had been exported to not only the South Caucasus and CIS regions, but also to the world market.

President Ilham Aliyev viewed “Nazlifan” cars produced in the Nakhchivan Automobile Plant, which was put into operation in January 2010.

About 3,000 cars had already been produced at the plant, which employees 62 people.

The Head of State was informed that 954 production and service enterprises had been established in Nakhchivan in the last 10 years.

Some 54,460 new jobs were opened in Nakhchivan between 2003-2013, with the rate of unemployment reduced to zero percent.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has today cut the ribbon to officially inaugurate a new administrative building of the Nakhchivan International Airport.

Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Vasif Talibov and president of Azerbaijan Airlines Jahangir Asgarov told the President that there were 53 offices in the new building, as well as conference halls and foreign language rooms.

They said the new administrative building was constructed as part of a project to remodel the air terminal of the airport. Once remodeled, the state-of-the-art air terminal will help improve the airport`s passenger transportation services and bring its security to international standards. The President was told that after remodeling the air terminal will have a capacity of handling nearly 500 passengers per hour.

The President also viewed new vehicles and equipment purchased as part of the measures to modernize the transport infrastructure and improve security at the Nakhchivan International Airport.
