The ceasefire has been violated on the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops in different positions 74 times a day, the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry said today.
Armenian armed forces opened fire at positions of the Azerbaijani armed forces located in the villages of Alibeyli and Kokhanebi in the Tovuz region from positions located in the village of Aygepar in Armenia's Berd region last night. From positions located in the village of Berkaber in Armenia's Ijevan region, Armenian armed forces opened fire at positions of the Azerbaijani armed forces located in the village of Qizilhajili in the Gazakh region.
From positions located in the village of Parakavar in Armenia's Noyemberyan region, Armenian armed forces opened fire at positions of the Azerbaijani armed forces located in the village of Kohnegishlag in the Agstafa region.
Azerbaijani Armed Forces were fired on from positions located near the villages of Goradiz, Garakhanbeyli, Ashagi Veysalli, Ashagi Abdurrahmanli in the Fizuli region, Marzili, Yusifjanli in the Agdam region, Chilaburt, Qizil Oba in the Terter region, Tapgaragoyunlu in the Goranboy region, Kuropatkino in the Khojavand region, Mehdili in the Jabrail region and at the nameless heights.
The shooting was countered by return fire. No one was killed.
The recent situation on the frontline remains tense.
Most facts surrounding ceasefire violaions are being observed towards the Fizuli, Agdam, Terter, Goranboy, Khojavand, Jabrail regions, spokesman for the Defence Ministry, Lieutenant-Colonel Vagif Dargahli told Trend earlier.
Dargahli stressed that the number of ceasefire violations has recently increased. This means there have been1380 incidents from January 21 to January 29.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
