Baku accepted singer Al Bano's apology

15 November 2013 [09:00] - TODAY.AZ
The name of famous Italian singer Al Bano has been removed from the list of undesirable individuals of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry. His name was included in this list for his illegal visit to the territories occupied by Armenia.

Such step was taken on the basis of the singer's appeal to the Azerbaijani side with the relevant request.

In his letter, the singer regretted for including his name in a list of undesirable individuals. Al Bano added that he was not informed about the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict and
expressed deep respect and sympathy for Azerbaijan.

In his letter, the singer also said that his visit did not pursue any political goals. Al Bano also stressed that he is a singer and it would be an honor for him to visit Azerbaijan again and perform his music to beautiful people of Azerbaijan.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
