29 March 2015 [17:00] - TODAY.AZ

Polish government is considering the possibility of making investments in Azerbaijan and especially, the agricultural sector, food production are regarded as promising spheres, Polish Ambassador to the country Marek Calka told Trend on Mar.29.

Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Janusz Piechocinski intends to discuss these issues during his visit to Baku in May. He will also take part in opening of the annual exhibition of agricultural products in Baku on May 21-25.

Moreover, representatives of several large firms will be among the members of the Polish delegation.

Participation in the projects related to Azerbaijan’s transport infrastructure is also among the promising spheres of cooperation, according to the Polish embassy.

Polish TINES company plans to participate in the construction of new lines of the Baku Metro. The company and Baku Metro will sign a memorandum of understanding in the near future.

The volume of trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Poland stood at $78.678 million as of 2014, according to Azerbaijan’s State Statistical Committee. This is while this figure was equal to $140 million according to the Polish statistical data.

“The inconsistency of the statistical data is due to the fact that almost a half of the foreign trade operations are carried out through the third countries,” Marek Calka earlier told Trend. “There should be made every effort in order to increase the bilateral trade turnover between our countries.”
