Ali Bayramli and Khanlar regions to be renamed - UPDATED

The meeting discussed changes in the names of Ali Bayramli City and Khanlar Region of Azerbaijan.

The meeting proposed to name Ali Bayramli as Shirvan and Khanlar as Goygol.

The Commission members praised the changes in the names and recommended to discuss the issues in the Parliament.

Naming Khanlar Region as Goygol was opposed.

Chair of the Commission Budag Budagov proposed to name Khanlar Region as Javad Khan not Goygol.

The Commission members welcomed Budagov’s proposal and sent it to the local executive bodies.

The meeting also debated changes in the names of several settlements of Astara, Goranboy, Siyazan, Lerik, Lankaran regions.

The Commission members adopted due decisions and recommended them for the consideration in the Parliament.

Ali Bayramli city will be renamed, said Adam Huseynov, chief of PR department of the Executive powers of Ali Bayramli city.

He noted that the due decision was adopted on basis of the appeal of the elderly people of the city, local intellectuals and separate citizens at the all-city session of the executive powers.

The decision has been submitted to the toponimy commission of the Parliament. The reason is the toponimy's being connected with the name with revolutionist-bolshevik Ali Bayramov. The said name does not meet the idea of state establishment, the city residents consider.
