Territorial integrity of Azerbaijan is not and may in no way be a subject to negotiations, says President Ilham Aliyev - UPDATE - PHOTOS

“Azerbaijan is making efforts to solve the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict as soon as possible. Azerbaijan considers settlement of Nagorno Karabakh problem acceptable only on the basis of international law,” President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev told the press after the meeting with Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov here on Monday.

The Head of State emphasized that the UN Security Council adopted four resolutions on this issue and these resolutions should be implemented unconditionally.

“The resolutions advocate for urgent pullout of the Armenian armed forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. The European Parliament, the Council of Europe, OSCE and other international organizations also voiced their position on this issue,” President Ilham Aliyev said.

Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity is recognized by the whole world, said President Ilham Aliyev adding that “Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity is not and may in no way be a topic of discussion.”

“The problem must be solved on the basis of international law, and within the framework of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. We hope negotiations will yield good results,” President Ilham Aliyev said.

After the meeting of the heads of state in presence of delegations, several Azerbaijani-Bulgarian documents were signed.

The cooperation documents included in particular, the Agreement on cooperation between Azerbaijan Economic University and Sofia National and World Economy University, the Memorandum on cooperation between Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy and the Diplomatic Institute of Bulgaria, the Memorandum on cooperation between Labor and Social Security of Population Ministry of Azerbaijan and the Labor and Social Policy Ministry of Bulgaria and the Agreement between the Government of Azerbaijan Republic and the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria on protection and exchange of confidential information.

Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Georgi Parvanov of Bulgaria have met today in presence of delegations. President Ilham Aliyev expressed confidence that the visit of the Bulgarian President to Azerbaijan would have very good results. “Our bilateral relations are developing successfully. I am totally confident that your visit will make a valuable contribution to development of these relations,” President Aliyev said.

President of Azerbaijan also said the political relations between Azerbaijan and Bulgaria is at high level and mutual visits are good example of this. “Of course, the energy factor plays an important role in relations between our countries and the negotiations between the companies are underway. The successful development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Bulgaria in all spheres is obvious and I am sure that the positive dynamics will remain,” the Head of state said.

Bulgarian President, Georgi Parvanov, in turn, expressed his gratitude for the cordial welcome. He said “the most important thing is that friendly relations between our countries have turned into business relations as well.”

“I think that it is very important to raise our relations to a new level. We would like the Bulgarian investments to be present in Azerbaijan as well,” Parvanov said.

Following the official welcoming ceremony, presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Georgi Parvanov of Bulgaria met in private.

The sides expressed satisfaction with successful development of bilateral cooperation in various spheres. They said good prospects exist to expand cooperation in political, economic, energy and other spheres. They also expressed confidence that relations between the two countries would further strengthen. The importance of President Parvanov`s official visit to Azerbaijan was stressed at the meeting.

The sides exchanged views on bilateral, regional and international issues.

President of Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov has today been given an official welcome to Azerbaijan.
A guard of honor was lined up for the Bulgarian President at the square decorated with the national flags of the two countries.

President Georgi Parvanov was welcomed by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. The Heads of State inspected a ceremonial Guard of Honor as an orchestra played the national anthems of Bulgaria and Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani state and government officials were introduced to President Georgi Parvanov, while members of the Bulgarian delegation to President Ilham Aliyev.

President of Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov has today arrived in Azerbaijan for an official visit. A guard of honor was lined up for the Bulgarian President at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport decorated with the national flags of the two countries.

President Georgi Parvanov was welcomed here by First Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Yagub Eyyubov and other officials. The Bulgarian President and First Deputy Premier Yagub Eyyubov had a brief meeting at the airport`s VIP lounge.
