Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry announced that Baku, based on the international law and UN Charter, shows respect to the territorial integrity, sovereignty and inviolability of internationally recognized borders of Ukraine.

Hikmet Hajiyev, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry said attempts of forced changing of borders are unacceptable.

He made the remarks responding to the statements of Alexander Mischenko, Ukrainian ambassador to Azerbaijan, who objected Azerbaijani delegation’s voting against the decision to foreclose Russia from voting right in winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, AzerTag news agency reported.

Hikmet Hajiyev said as part of the 68th session of the UN General Assembly Azerbaijan supported the resolution No 68/268 of March 27, 2014 entitled “The territorial integrity of Ukraine”.

“At the PACE session held on January 26-30, touching upon the issue related to the delegation of the Russian Federation, Azerbaijan’s foreign minister speaking in PACE as the chairman of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers and at the sessions of the Committee of Ministers said Azerbaijan stands against application of double standards in the Council of Europe and selective approach to the member-states. All the same, the issue of sanctions against Armenia which rudely violates the values of the Council of Europe and principles of international law has been repeatedly raised. In such issues the Council of Europe must adhere to a single approach on the basis of the principle of supremacy of international law,” Hajiyev said.

Kiev and the West accuse Moscow of arming and funding the rebels and backing the latest advance with Russian troops on the ground. Moscow denies any involvement.
