Agricultural production ups in Azerbaijan since 2013 beginning

In January-July the volume of agricultural production in the real prices amounted to 2123 million manats, increasing by 4.9 percent in comparison with the same period of 2012, the report of the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan said.

"The growth of crop production amounted to 4.5 percent, and the livestock production amounted to 5.1 percent," the report said.

Spring field works in Azerbaijan has almost been finished in June, and by June 24 sowing of spring crops in an area of ??363.1 thousand hectares was carried out, which is 2.9 percent less than the same period in 2012.

According to the report, potatoes were planted in an area of ??65.3 thousand hectares, vegetables - in 77.2 thousand hectares, grain and leguminous crops - in 71.8 thousand hectares, melons and gourds - in 28.5 thousand hectares, cotton - in 23.4 thousand hectares, sunflower for animal feed - in 9.3 thousand hectares, sugar beet - in 5.5 thousand hectares, perennial herbs -in 73.5 thousand hectares.

Grain and leguminous crops, including corn, amounted to 19.8 percent, technical plants - to 10.9 percent, potatoes, vegetables and melons and gourds - to 47.1 percent and fodder plants - to 21.1 percent.

Some 343 thousand tons of vegetables, 274.9 thousand tons of potatoes, 80.3 thousand tons of fruits and berries were produced in the enterprises.

During the reporting period, the country produced 221.5 thousand tons of meat in live weight, 913,000 tons of milk, 685.4 million units of eggs, 15 tons of wool.

Meat production compared with the first five months of 2012 from January to June of this year rose by 3.2 percent, milk - by 6.6 percent, eggs - by 14.2 percent, wool - by 2.6 percent.
