The upcoming processes in the South Caucasus are of priority importance for the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, according to the acting chairman of the Council’s Ministerial Committee.
Addressing the Committee’s meeting on the strengthening of partnership between the Council of Europe and European Union, Portuguese Foreign Minister Diogu Freitas du Amaral stressed on the necessity of active support to democratic changes in the South Caucasus countries.

“We must pay special attention to the issues concerning the strengthening of democracy, as well as protection of human rights and the ensuring of the rule of law in all PACE member countries,” he said. “From this viewpoint, it is necessary to take into consideration constitutional changes in Armenia and the upcoming November parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan.”
