Market instead of friendship and resentment instead of politics

17 February 2026 [12:21] - TODAY.AZ

On the air of the radio station Komsomolskaya Pravda, Russian military correspondent Dmitry Steshin stated that neither Armenia nor Azerbaijan are friends, that Russia was needed by them only as a market, and now their elites are "kowtowing" to the United States.

Well, it’s a familiar tune: the moment someone stops looking to please—friendship is over, the curtain falls, traitors exit stage left. Yesterday they were “brotherly nations,” today—they are “not friends.”

Geopolitics, it seems, works like a school chat: no like—no loyalty.

Shall we reveal a harsh truth? Countries don’t form friendships based on schoolyard oaths, but on interests.

What benefits one day may not benefit the next. It’s a market, not a marriage ceremony.

And if someone is “kowtowing,” perhaps it’s simply called diplomacy.

Or do we expect every nation to stand at attention and buy exclusively out of nostalgia? Unfortunately, the world has long moved beyond a subscription to eternal loyalty.
