Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Youth and Sports issued a statement on January 16 in connection with the participation of commands of the unrecognized regime created on Azerbaijani lands occupied by Armenia in the KVN international festival.

Minister Azad Rahimov sent a letter to President of the KVN International Union Alexander Maslyakov and held negotiations with the organizing committee of the festival in order to achieve their intervention in the issue of inviting the "With Bread and Salt" and "DeleYaman" teams, acting on behalf of the notorious regime created by Armenia in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, on the ongoing 28th international festival of KVN.

The main requirement to those teams was that they should've either represent Azerbaijan under the name of Khankendi or the teams should've been discharged of the competitions. Along with it, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry made a statement on this issue, and sent a note to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Note that Armenia was provided in the selection stage of competitions in general by 5 teams. Two of them represented Khankendi, two - Armenia, and one – Moscow - under the name of "National Team of Armenia".

“As a result, the performance of the "With Bread and Salt" and "DeleYaman" teams, representing the unrecognized regime, limited to the qualifying round only. The dirty intention and plan of Armenia to turn the 28th international festival of KVN into the platform of promotion of the notorious regime created in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan weren't realized. To justify it failure, the Armenian side tries to “present” 2-3 minute warm-up at the selection stage among 500 teams as participation,” the ministry’s statement reads.

Armenia passed to the second round only with the Moscow team "National Team of Armenia". In general, on the second stage, 81 teams have received license, including representatives of Azerbaijan.

Armenia broke out a lengthy war against Azerbaijan laying territorial claims on its South Caucasus neighbor. Since a war in the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and over 1 million were displaced as a result of the large-scale hostilities.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding districts.
