The head of the working group researching damage caused by Armenian aggression to Azerbaijan, MP Khanhuseyn Kazimli said Armenia should be severely punished for the damage caused to Azerbaijan.

"The damage caused to Azerbaijan for the years of occupation of 20 percent of its territory is very difficult to express in numbers. Not only cultural monuments are damaged, there are also a huge number of nuances that must be considered as one, and Armenia should be severely punished," Kazimli said.

Azerbaijan and Armenia have been locked in conflict for over two decades. Armenia occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions, after laying territorial claims against its South Caucasus neighbor that sparked a lengthy war in the early 1990s. The UN Security Council has adopted four resolutions on Armenian withdrawal, but they have not been enforced to date.

The official further stressed that the occupied regions of Azerbaijan have lost their investment allure.

"Because of the Armenian occupation, Azerbaijan not only lost the opportunity to invest in tourism development in Karabakh, but also investors do not want to invest in frontline areas. How is it even possible to do business there if the Armenian occupants shell these areas every day?”

Kazimli reminded that it is important not only to assess the damage, but also to publicize the damage to the whole world, showing the true face of Armenia.

"We have involved experts from Iran, Moldova, Hungary, Germany, Turkey, Russia and many other countries. These experts help us in the evaluation of the damaged areas caused by the occupation. In early October, we are planning to hold a special training for evaluation. In our work we will use materials about Azerbaijan published by foreign historians and scientists," he added.

Every Azerbaijani all over the world should be involved in this mission, according to Kazimli.

"Anyone who has any documents proving the damage caused to Azerbaijan should help. This question is important to the entire Azerbaijani nation”.

According to the preliminary estimates of the working group, the damage caused by Armenia to Azerbaijan for the years of occupation is at least $ 700 billion.

A working group of 15 people sits at the State Commission for Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of occupied lands. The group’s activities are promoted by the head of the Presidential Administration, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs, Ali Hasanov, and by a number of ministries and committees. Its purpose is to estimate the damage caused by the occupation with the help of international organizations and in accordance with international standards.
