Heightened security in Baku

The Emergency Situations Ministry held a meeting chaired by Minister Colonel-General Kamaladdin Heydarov, focusing on preparations for the Opening Ceremony of the first European Games Baku 2015 on June 11.

Attendees of the meeting were briefed on a report by the head of the operational headquarters that was set up for the Games, Deputy Minister, Lieutenant General Etibar Mirzoyev regarding security at the Opening Ceremony.

The chiefs of the Ministry then began to operationalize the suggestions in the report.

Heydarov ordered the Ministry to provide a heightened level of security at the Opening Ceremony.

Security issues are a priority for the Baku 2015 European Games. The relevant ministries in Azerbaijan have been instructed to take every possible security measure to ensure the full safety of both athletes and visitors.

The Emergency Situations Ministry has been working around the clock to guard the sports facilities of the European Games.

The Interior Ministry also announced its decision to take the areas where the Games will be held under full control.

All employees of the interior ministry will preside over thorough inspections of all the sports venues during the European Games. The employees from other law enforcement agencies, the transport ministry, as well as servicemen from interior troops will help police ensure comprehensive safety and security throughout the Games.

Baku 2015, the first-ever European Games, is an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the entire continent and will take place on June 12-28, 2015.

There will be a total of 20 sporting events at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over the 17 days of competition.
