Dubai ruler visits Azerbaijan

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the vice president, prime minister of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Dubai arrived in Baku with an official visit on April 1.

A guard of honor was arranged for the ruler of Dubai at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport decorated with the national flags of the two countries, AzerTag news agency reported.

Al Maktoum was welcomed by Yagub Eyyubov, the first deputy prime minister of Azerbaijan and other officials.

Following his arrival to the country, Al Maktoum visited the Alley of Martyrs in Baku.

He paid tribute to Azerbaijani heroes who gave their lives for the country’s independence and territorial integrity. He laid a wreath at the Eternal Flame monument.

A military orchestra played the national anthems of the United Arab Emirates and Azerbaijan.

The ruler of Dubai also enjoyed a panoramic view of Azerbaijan`s capital.

The United Arab Emirates has recognized Azerbaijan’s independence on December 26, 1991 as one the first states. Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and UAE were established in September 1992.

In June 1994, the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of UAE in Turkey was accredited at the same time in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan and UAE are cooperating within the bounds of the United Nations Organization, Islamic Conference Organization and other influential regional and international organizations. UAE is supporting the Azerbaijani fair position with regard to the Armenia – Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
