No Azerbaijanis among Malaysia plane crash victims, preliminary investigation says

Results of a preliminary investigation have revealed that there are no Azerbaijani citizens among the killed in the Malaysian Airlines plane crash, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Malaysia told Trend.

"Immediately after the information about the crash was received, the embassy contacted the relevant agencies of the Malaysian government which said that there are no Azerbaijanis among the dead passengers," the embassy said.

The Malaysian authorities claim the 41 passengers have not yet been identified, so the embassy will keep the issue in priority.

Earlier, the hotline operator of Malaysia Airlines also noted that there were no Azerbaijanis on the passenger list of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17.

On July 17, news reports revealed flight MH17 of Malaysia Airlines crashing in eastern Ukraine's Donetsk region, with 298 people on board. The "Boeing 777" plane, which was flying from Amsterdam to Malaysia, fell near the city of Shakhtersk.

Adviser to the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs Anton Gerashchenko earlier said that the plane was shot down at an altitude of about 10 kilometers. The information has not been confirmed officially.
