US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs Eric Rubin has reaffirmed his country`s commitment to solve the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, saying the settlement of the dispute will remain one of the key priorities for the Obama Administration.

“For us, assistance in finding a fair and long-term solution to painful Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which has lasted for 20 years, will continue being one of the key priorities,” he told “A Night in Washington with Friends from Baku” gala dinner organized by Azerbaijan-American Alliance in Washington.

“This will remain one of the key priorities for us in the next four years. We will try our best to help achieve a positive result based on the principles we are committed to, a result that will benefit all nations in the region and that will be continuous.”

Rubin stressed the importance of the gala dinner, saying: “The event is especially important because it gathered not only Azerbaijani and US officials and business representatives, but also members of non-governmental organizations being hereby a positive event. We are witnessing how the relations between Azerbaijan and US have developed during past 20 years. We have to do everything possible to strengthen these relations in the future.”

He said trade and mutual investment between the two countries increased. “We have made outstanding achievements particularly in the energy sector,” said the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, adding his country will continue improving its partnership with Azerbaijan.
“Azerbaijan and the USA are working together on the Afghan issue on a global scale.”
Rubin noted the cooperation between Baku and Washington was not limited to one or two issues.

“It covers wider and deeper relations based on common values and wishes.”
“One of these wishes is our hope that Azerbaijan will continue making progress in building democratic institutions and open civil society based on the democratic roots. We have witnessed this progress, and will further support Azerbaijan on this front in the next four years,” Rubin said.
