Azerbaijan to build oil refinery in Ukraine

29 May 2008 [16:57] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan does not intend to buy existing oil assets in Ukraine.
The point is Azerbaijan's proposal to build a new oil refinery in Ukraine, said Ukraine's ambassador to Baku Boris Klimchuk commenting on Azerbaijan's intention to buy oil assets in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian diplomat announced that the Azerbaijani side raised the issue of the construction of a new oil refinery in Ukraine last year and by instructions of President Viktor Yushenko the said issue is being developed in the government. In particular, several variants of the construction of the refinery and other parameters, connected with its activity, are being considered.

Speaking about the volumes of Azerbaijani oil planned to be pumped by the Odessa-Brody pipeline, the ambassador noted that during the talks the presidents discussed the experimental transportation of small volumes of oil. This implies shipments of 50,000 or 100,000 tons. These oil shipments will be supplied to the oil refineries of Ukraine.

Yet, it is not connected with issues of transportation of large volumes of oil by Odessa-Brody-Plotsk pipeline, currently being worked out.
