Georgia may not get Shah Deniz gas

06 March 2007 [09:30] - TODAY.AZ
Georgia may not receive 800 million cubic meters of gas from Turkey's portion of the Shah Daniz pipeline, a Georgian newspaper said.

The Rezonansi newspaper reported Saturday that talks with Turkey were suspended indefinitely, leaving the former Soviet republic still dependent on Russia for the bulk of its energy needs.

The newspaper said there was no date set for the resumption of talks with Turkey.

Shah Daniz is thought to be the largest natural gas discovery worldwide since 1978, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the Department of Energy's data arm. Under the plan, Turkey was to sell to Georgia 800 million cu. m. of its share of gas from the pipeline that originates in Azerbaijan. United Press International
