Azerbaijan Railways CJSC may establish some additional train routes to Russia to facilitate passengers' traffic, according to Nadir Azmammadov, Spokesman for the company.

"The issue may be discussed during meetings on summer traffic schedule. Final decision on the issue will be made to facilitate passengers' traffic," Azmammadov said.

He added that the issue should also be coordinated with the Russian side to schedule the arrival and departure of the trains in advance.

"The additional train routes will be possible in case of demand and agreement with the Russian side," Azmammadov noted.

He said the destinations of additional train routes will be defined based on passengers' demands.

Azerbaijan Railways CJSC has earlier said the Russian Railways JSC would halt the Moscow-Baku, Rostov-Baku and Tyumen-Baku train routes since this December due to economic inexpediency. The Rostov-Baku route will be stopped on December 16, while the trains will not be allowed to leave for Baku from Tyumen on December 18. Baku train station will not receive the trains from Moscow as of December 20, according to the Azerbaijan Railways.

Azmammadov said the Tyumen-Makhachkala train route will replace the Tyumen-Baku route as of December 14

“Tickets for the route from Makhachkala to Tyumen will be available in Baku,” he noted

Azmammadov said the Azerbaijan Railways CJSC will keep on traffic to Moscow and Kharkiv notwithstanding the closure of several routes to Baku by the Russian side.
