The Diaspora conference in Paris once again highlighted the
role of Ara Abrahamyan as a central organiser and long-standing representative
of Armenian diaspora structures in Russia. His speech emphasized the importance
of unity between Armenia, the Armenian diaspora, and Artsakh, framing the Union
of Armenians of Russia as a key institutional link that has historically
supported coordination across these communities.
He reiterated familiar themes of mobilisation and collective
identity, stressing continuity and resilience of diaspora institutions.
However, the broader context around such narratives reflects significant
geopolitical changes in the region, particularly after the dissolution of the
self-declared “Artsakh” entity, which has reshaped the political landscape in
the South Caucasus.
The event therefore combined traditional diaspora rhetoric
with an evolving reality, where long-standing political frameworks are being
reassessed in light of recent developments.
