Iran’s world engagement policy to fail if sanctions not remove

29 September 2015 [13:58] - TODAY.AZ

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s policy of engagement with the world will fail if economic sanctions on the Islamic Republic are not removed, a political expert said.

While Western threats are still on against Iran, if what comes out of Rouhani’s diplomatic efforts to open Iran up to the world is only a thing such as temporary suspension of the sanctions, then Rouhani’s efforts would have come to nothing, Kamal Sajjadi told Trend Sept. 29.

Iran expects the removal of sanctions after it managed to reach a deal with world powers over its nuclear program.

In his Sept. 28 address to the UN General Assembly, Rouhani said the deal was created as a result of a "careful and clear diplomatic effort." He went on to call it "an international instrument," "a brilliant example of victory over war," and said it "sets a strong precedent".

Sajjadi said the policy of the Iranian state in general is to conduct relations with the whole world.

However, he noted, if sanctions remain following the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the engagement will lack any value for Iran.
