
On October 22, “Regional Security Challenges – Conflicts and post-conflict developments” theme was discussed within “The South Caucasus in a changing world” annual Symposium of International relations Scholars at Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL). Prominent scholars and highly qualified specialists on international relations from Turkey, USA, UAE, United Kingdom, Ukraine, Poland, Germany joined the dicussions which took place at AUL.
Yossef Bodansky, Vanda Felbab Brown (US), Dennis Sammut (UK), Tayyar Ari, Sezai Ozcelik (Turkey), Kadir Ustun (Turkey- US), Taufiq Rahim (UAE), Hanna Shelest (Ukraine), Przemyslaw Ozierski (Poland), Ziya Gaziyev (Azerbaijan-Germany), Zaur Shiriyev (Azerbaijan), Alexander Cornelissen (Holland) were present in the Symposium.
Greeting the guests Jala Garibova, vice rector on International relations of AUL conveyed sincere congratulations of AUL rector, professor Samad Seyidov on the occassion of the opening session of the Symposium.
“I am sure, benefitial scientific discussions will be held at AUL, one of the main organizers of the Symposium” – Jala Garibova added.
Further the guests started discussions on the issue. Dennis Sammut, an Executive Director of the London Information Network on Conflicts and State-Building and Hanna Shelest, Senior Researcher of National Institute for Strategic Studies of Odessa branch spoke of the increasing role of South Caucasus in the world politics, risks and processes in the region and Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
“Efforts of International organizations in solving Nagorno-Karabakh conflict are not sufficient and I think, more efficient ways of solving the problem should be found” – Hanna Shelest said.
By enhancing regional cooperation and network, the Symposium aims at contributing the growth of the community of scholars in Azerbaijan who are interested in regional politics, economics and internatinal relationships. The Symposium which is held annually serves as a platform for future forms of cooperation, both operational and academic.
