Armenia, a country which has no analogue in the world for high-level corruption, bureaucracy, lawlessness, abuse of official positions, a disregard for people's problems, baseless trials for citizens, and the violation of human rights, is now carrying out planned acts of revenge against the family members of the political activists.

One of them, Vahan Martirosyan, the head of the National Liberation Movement, who has asked the Azerbaijani government for a political asylum, suffered through such a sudden incident when his 68-year-old mother was hit by a car in an intersection on the morning of October 7 at 8:50 a.m.

Martirosyan believes that this accident was not fortuity. He told Trend in an interview that this is a logical continuation of the way the Armenian authorities and law enforcement agencies act.

"The authorities, law enforcement agencies, and the national security service resort to such methods to fight people like me, who are out of control and oppose [Armenian President Serzh] Sargsyan’s regime," he said. "I see this as a message to me and as a warning. They treat people like vile jackals. This is peculiar to them. They know well that during a press conference held September 18 and in an interview, I, in principle, disclosed 10 percent of the information I have, and spoke about all issues superficially."

As usual, the Armenian authorities have begun to persecute, launch criminal cases against and even attempt to arrest political activists who only demand their basic human rights and urge the government and top officials to be much more open to the public.

Martirosyan further noted that the amendments that will be made to Armenia's constitution are aimed at prolonging the criminal regime of President Serzh Sargsyan, since, according to the country's constitution, Sargsyan cannot be nominated for a third term and "by making amendments to the constitution, he is trying to create a different system of governance in Armenia."

"He will easily become a speaker and if a parliamentary system of government created, he will de facto stay in power," Martirosyan said.

"Unfortunately, I don’t see prerequisites that civil society will finally protest the oligarchic and corrupt authorities of Armenia, since we had three regime changes in 25 years: Petrosyan, Kocharyan and Sargsyan regimes. They have perfected their ‘pocket’ opposition skills to such a level that even if the people want change, pseudo leaders who are de jure leaders, but in fact are fed by the Sargsyan regime, emerge immediately," he added.
