Azerbaijani citizens have again expressed great confidence in President Ilham Aliyev as evidenced by the results of a nationwide poll conducted by the Rey Monitoring Center in early July.

Judging by the results of the poll, if presidential elections were held next Sunday, 89.7 percent of respondents would vote for the incumbent President Ilham Aliyev.

In response to the question whether Ilham Aliyev “represents the interests of people like you,” about 86 percent of respondents said "yes" (completely or partially), 3 percent said "no," and 3 percent said "rather no, than yes." The remaining 8 percent remained undecided.

The poll showed that 73 percent of the population does not see an alternative to Ilham Aliyev as the President of Azerbaijan.

The report is based on the results of an 'omnibus' public opinion survey conducted on July 1-3, 2015, by way of 'face-to-face' interviews of 1,500 respondents aged 18 and over. It has a 2.7 percent margin of error.

The poll, which reflects proportionally the social stratification and the sex and age structure of the population, was based on a random sample, and covered the 36 settlements of the 10 varying socio-economic zones of Azerbaijan.

Polls conducted previously also showed a high approval rating for Ilham Aliyev in Azerbaijan. One particular poll held on June 13-15 this year showed that 87.3 percent of voters would select Ilham Aliyev for President.

Another poll held in 2011 by Rey Monitoring Center, showed that 83 percent of respondents would reelect Ilham Aliyev as Azerbaijan's president. Another poll in the same year also reinforced this result, with 84.1 percent. In 2013, two polls showing an approval rate of 81.2 percent and 84.7 percent once again displayed President Aliyev's great reputation among his nation.

The results of these opinion polls are shining examples of the successful domestic and foreign policies pursued by Ilham Aliyev, the successor of founder of the modern Azerbaijan, National Leader Heydar Aliyev.
