Escalation along the line of contact has flared once again as Armenian troops attempted to carry out acts of sabotage against Azerbaijan on March 5.

The Azerbaijani armed forces managed to prevent such hostile interference from taking place on the contact line in the direction of the Agdere-Terter zone, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said.

The ministry explained how Azerbaijani troops were able to prevent an all-out assault against its positions when an Armenian reconnaissance group infringed on the ceasefire.

A powerful strike from Azerbaijan troops confused the Armenian saboteurs forcing them to retreat and run. They fled with such speed and confusion that they left their weapons on the ground, only concerned with saving their own lives.

Provocative measures once again ended in failure, getting a fitting rebuff from the frontline units of the Azerbaijani armed forces.

Unfortunately, one Azerbaijani serviceman, Sergeant Dayanet Zahidov was slightly wounded in the arm during the exchange of fire.

Meanwhile, the Armenian military units infringed on the terms of the armistice a reported 69 times on various parts of the contact line between the armies over the past 24 hours, confirmed the ministry.

The ministry has repeatedly slammed Armenia's leadership and brass for constantly infringing and violating on the ceasefire, by unlawfully entering onto Azerbaijan's territories.

Regular ceasefire violations triggered by the Armenian forces have generated much instability, complicating any hope for a fast and peaceful resolution of the ongoing territorial dispute between the two countries.

Armenia's preference for armed incursions instead of pulling its troops peacefully out of the occupied Azerbaijani territories as prescribed by the UN resolutions has periodically pushed Azerbaijan to consider opting for an armed resolution over the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The protracted conflict in Karabakh is the fruit of Armenia's military invasion in Azerbaijan's internationally recognized Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions in the early 1990s.

As a result of bloody warfare, 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory has been under Armenia's occupation for over two decades. Over a million Azerbaijanis have lived in refuge towns and camps as a result.
