Azerbaijani and Turkish foreign ministers appreciated the bilateral cooperation level between the two countries in Ashgabat meeting.

Elmar Mammadyarov and Mevlut Cavusoglu met as part of the trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Turkmenistan, to be held in Ashgabat on January 29, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported.

The sides stressed that the Azerbaijani president’s visit to Turkey in January 2015 opened up new opportunities for cooperation.

They also highlighted the importance of the trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Turkmenistan.

The ministers exchanged views on regional and global issues.

Mammadyarov also met Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. During the meeting, the sides emphasized the importance of the ministers’ trilateral meeting in terms of development of the regional cooperation.

They discussed the economic, trade relations between the countries, as well as other issues of mutual interest.

Ashgabat will host the second meeting of foreign ministers Mammadyarov, Cavusoglu and Rashid Meredov in the trilateral meeting format. During the meeting, the sides intend to discuss numerous regional and economic issues, as well as the development of relations.

The sides will also focus on the energy projects which are important not only for the region, but also for Europe.

The first trilateral meeting of the Azerbaijani, Turkish and Turkmen foreign ministers took place in Baku last May.

The meeting was focused on a wide range of issues, including the economic relations, energy projects, and cooperation within international organizations.

Experts believe the establishment of a tripartite relationship between Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan will be beneficial to all the three states.

The three mentioned countries decided to establish the Turkey-Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan tripartite format in late 2013. Azerbaijan is also member of other two tripartite formats: Azerbaijan-Turkey-Georgia and Azerbaijan-Turkey-Iran.
