Armenia violates ceasefire with Azerbaijan

Armenian armed forces violated ceasefire with Azerbaijan 53 times in numerous positions on Jan.17, Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said on Jan.19.

Armenian armed forces located in the villages of Berkaber and Paravakar of Armenia’s Ijevan district, opened fire at the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces located in the villages of Gizilhajili of Gazakh and Kohnegishlag of Aghstafa districts.

Azerbaijani positions located at the nameless heights and in the villages of Gaymagli, Kemerli of Gazakh district took fire from the positions located in the villages of Barekamavan, Doveh and Berdavan of Armenia’s Noyemberyan district.

Azerbaijani positions also underwent fire from the positions located near the villages of Goyarkh, Chileburt of Terter district, Yusifjanli, Shikhlar, Kengerli, Javahirli, Merzili, Sarijali, Garagashli of Aghdam, Kuropatkino of Khojavend, Horadiz, Garakhanbeyli, Ashagi Veyselli of Fizuli and Mehdili of Jabrayil districts.

Moreover, Azerbaijani positions took fire from the positions located at the nameless heights of Fizuli and Jabrayil districts.

Armenian armed forces violated ceasefire with Azerbaijan 62 times as of Jan.18.

Armenian armed forces, located in the villages of Berkaber and Paravakar of Armenia’s Ijevan district, opened fire at the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces located in the villages of Gizilhajili of Gazakh and Kohnegishlag of Aghstafa districts.

Azerbaijani positions located in the villages of Gaymagli and Kemerli of Gazakh district, underwent fire from the positions located in the villages of Barekamavan and Doveh of Armenia’s Noyemberyan district.

Moreover, Azerbaijani positions took fire from the positions located near the villages of Goyarkh, Chayli, Gizil Oba of Terter district, Tapgaragoyunlu of Goranboy, Shikhlar, Javahirli, Shuraabad, Novruzlu, Bash Gervend of Aghdam, Kuropatkino of Khojavend, Horadiz, Gorgan, Garakhanbeyli, Ashagi Seyidahmadli of Fizuli and Mehdili of Jabrayil districts.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijani positions underwent fire from the positions located at the nameless heights of Goranboy, Khojavend, Fizuli and Jabrayil districts.

The opposing side was silenced with return fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
