Azerbaijan completely ready for emergency cases

Azerbaijan, like any other country in the world has a strategic goods reserve to cope with unexpected events.

Expert in economics Ogtay Ahverdiyev told local media that, to this end, up to 7,000 kinds of products, including food have been stored at Azerbaijan’s state reserves.

“The country imports a number of goods from food to cars. Actually, if you take a look at the volume of imports of Azerbaijan, you will find out that our country can live on seven years without exporting any goods,” he said.

Azerbaijan has established trade relations with 141 world countries. Its commodities were exported to 107 countries and it imported goods from 128 countries in January-September, 2014.

The State Statistics Committee reports that during the past nine months, the foreign trade turnover was $31 billion. Meanwhile, the volume of export stood at $24.4 billion and the volume of import at $6.6 billion. Meanwhile, a positive balance in the amount of $17.8 billion was created.

Ahverdiyev said the state reserves possess all the necessary clothing, including underwear. “There are also necessary types of medicines, matches and metal, in particular channels. Over 30,000 tons of grain is stored in warehouses of the Emergency Situations Ministry. Among the products stored in the state reserve there are also a variety of cereals (rice, buckwheat, etc.), meat, flour, etc. Each product has a shelf life, so the products are periodically updated. For example, the grain is replaced every year.

In short, the state reserve has everything you need for cases of war or other emergencies. This stock is stored throughout the country.”

Among the total volume of exported products there are crude oil, oil products, natural gas, fruit –vegetable, fat and oil of vegetable and animal, sugar, chemical products, plastic and products made from it, aluminum and products made from it. Azerbaijan mostly imports passenger cars, wheat, cigarettes, pharmaceutical products, converters, sugar and machines. The country’s main import partners are Turkey, Russia, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States and Italy.

Export of non-oil products was $ 1.2 billion and the figure per capita was equal to $130.9.

The State Agency for Material Reserves is involved in the development of public policy and regulation in the sphere of creation state, mobilized, food reserves in Azerbaijan and other reserves in case of an emergency situation. The agency also controls this area and oversees public material reserves, prepares proposals by volume, nomenclature and the formation of state reserves, carries out actions for the collection and storage, protection, renewal, granting, restoration and establishment of state reserves. It also contributes to international humanitarian assistance.
